A key active molecule in saw palmetto is a phytosterol known as beta-sitosterol. Phytosterols resemble cholesterol in their structure and act as precursor molecules for the formation of other structures in the body. Research has shown beta-sitosterol to be beneficial in the treatment of prostate enlargement.
