A lack of information on the effects of pesticide ingredients makes them appear safer than they actually are – potentially causing serious harm to people and the environment.
As shocking data presented at a recent conference in London proved, the number of toxic chemicals used on UK supermarket vegetables has risen by up to 17-fold over the past 40 years. Not only is there little doubt that the situation is very similar across much of the rest of the world, in many cases the data on pesticide use and safety has either been deliberately hidden or publicly misrepresented.
In the Brussels EU, regulators are blatantly ignoring the toxic effects of pesticide cocktails in foods. In fact, 90 percent of Brussels EU tests to determine the supposed safety of pesticides are said to come from the chemical industry itself. Clearly, therefore, the assumed safety of pesticide use – whereby global regulators are essentially ignoring the impacts of dosing humans and entire landscapes with these dangerous chemicals – must change.
