The makers of Montelukast, a powerful asthma medication that can trigger hallucinations, night terrors and suicidal thoughts, could be forced to put prominent warnings on the drug.

Montelukast is well known to cause serious side effects in children. A study published in 2017 by researchers in the Netherlands confirmed that it may cause nightmares and other mental health issues. The researchers also found a high number of patients reported having allergic granulomatous angiitis, an extremely rare autoimmune disease.
In contrast, natural therapies for asthma have been shown to be safe and effective in preventing and controlling the condition. In recent years, for example, studies have shown that vitamin D supplements protect against severe asthma attacks and that omega-3 fatty acids are linked to fewer childhood asthma symptoms.
