Intensive Farming Is ‘Single Most Risky Behavior’ For Pandemics, New Report Claims

News

“A new report suggests intensive farming is “the single most risky human behavior in relation to pandemics” and calls for urgent changes to the global food system in order to prevent future outbreaks.” [Source: naturalproductsglobal.com]

This report argues that a reduction in the intensity of farming animals could potentially help towards tackling the climate crisis, protecting the environment, combatting antibiotic resistance, protecting human health, and improving the welfare of animals. Unfortunately, however, the report fails to identify one of the most important ways in which intensive farming methods contribute to viral pandemics.

Independent studies conducted in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and many other countries show that the nutrient content of our food has fallen substantially over the past decades. This is largely caused by modern intensive agricultural methods stripping increasing amounts of nutrients from the soil. As a result of such farming, our food supply has become significantly less nutritious than it was generations ago.

The reduced levels of nutrients in modern-day diets are having a direct effect on mankind’s immunity to infectious diseases. Chronic deficiencies of essential micronutrients are now the major factor contributing to compromised immunity and the rise of pandemics.

To examine the evidence showing we can no longer get all the nutrients we need in our food, read this article on our website.
