Intensive Farming Is ‘Single Most Risky Behavior’ For Pandemics, New Report Claims

This report argues that a reduction in the intensity of farming animals could potentially help towards tackling the climate crisis, protecting the environment, combatting antibiotic resistance, protecting human health, and improving the welfare of animals. Unfortunately, however, the report fails to identify one of the most important ways in which intensive farming methods contribute to viral pandemics.

Independent studies conducted in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and many other countries show that the nutrient content of our food has fallen substantially over the past decades. This is largely caused by modern intensive agricultural methods stripping increasing amounts of nutrients from the soil. As a result of such farming, our food supply has become significantly less nutritious than it was generations ago.
