Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte Threatens Unvaccinated People With Arrest

Having already previously threatened to jail people who refuse COVID-19 vaccines, Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has become infamous for his hardline response to the pandemic. Currently, unvaccinated people in the country’s capital, Manila, can only leave their homes for essential trips. Despite this, recent reports suggest 46 percent of all coronavirus tests in the Philippines are coming back positive, a record high in the country. The finding is fueling fears of even greater potential curbs on movement and personal liberty being enforced by Duterte.

The real tragedy of such authoritarian responses to the virus is that while alternative approaches exist that could effectively, safely, and affordably control the pandemic, they are largely being ignored. Research published in February 2021 by scientists at the Dr. Rath Research Institute has shown that combining vitamin C with other natural compounds successfully impedes key mechanisms of coronavirus infection. Building on previous studies published in July 2020 and August 2020, the findings demonstrate that vitamin C – both alone and in combination with other natural compounds – should be taken into consideration in the development of preventive and therapeutic approaches for controlling the pandemic.
