In 2014 we started a school gardening project in Uganda. The project involves growing fruit trees, vegetables, and medicinal plants, and teaching the children about nutrition. Our work is already beginning to change lives. But we still face many challenges. The rainy season presents particular difficulties. With many schools lacking basic facilities such as desks and chairs, the children’s education invariably suffers. For our project to be successful in the long term, we realized that it was vital to ensure that lessons could continue even during heavy rains. So we decided we had to do something to help. We found a Ugandan carpenter who could build us some school desks.
