It isn’t just in the United States where high levels of pesticides are found in foods. Research published in 2019 suggested that pesticide residues were present in more than 80 percent of soils in Europe. In 2022 it was reported that European citizens have been exposed to a dramatic rise in residues of the most toxic pesticides. This strongly contradicted official claims that use of the chemicals in Europe was declining.
Around one-third of the world’s farmland has pesticide levels up to 1,000 times higher than what is generally considered to be safe. With the chemicals now linked to heart disease and stroke, chronic kidney disease, and other ill effects, the long-term implications for global health are becoming increasingly clear.
