An optimum supply of micronutrients is crucial for protecting against respiratory infections. But while vitamin D is certainly important, other micronutrients are likewise essential.

Vitamin C helps in the inactivation of viral DNA, for example, thus limiting viral reproduction. It also aids antibody production by the white blood cells. Recent research confirms that the power of vitamin C against viral infections can be significantly enhanced when it is combined with a synergistic group of additional micronutrients.

Other key immune-enhancing micronutrients include folate, vitamins A, E, B6, and B12, the minerals calcium and magnesium, and the carotenoids alpha carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and cryptoxanthin.
