In addition to wanting to eliminate artificial colorings from food products, Kennedy has also advocated banning other harmful food additives. Emphasizing the need for “real and transformative” changes in food quality, he is urging manufacturers to take proactive steps or face regulatory action. The push for stricter regulations reflects growing public pressure on the food industry to address the rising chronic disease burden that its products contribute to.

The increasing focus on food follows President Trump signing a new executive order to establish a Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission, to be chaired by Kennedy. Tasked with investigating the root causes of America’s rising chronic disease rates, Kennedy has been told to engage in “fresh thinking” and focus on factors including diet, environmental exposures, corporate influence, and government policy.
