A newly released secret dossier published by the UK’s Mail on Sunday newspaper proves that the British government knew as early as March 2020 that the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19 was engineered in a laboratory. Compiled by a former head of the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), Sir Richard Dearlove, and passed to the country’s then-Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, the classified report, labeled ‘Secret – Recipient’s Eyes Only,’ states: ‘It is now beyond reasonable doubt that COVID-19 was engineered in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.’ With even the New York Times recently publishing an opinion piece about the outbreak which concluded that ‘we were badly misled about the event that changed our lives,’ the people of Britain and the world deserve an explanation as to why, while under lockdown in their homes, they were repeatedly lied to about the origins of the pandemic.
Although Prime Minister Johnson reportedly took the dossier seriously and pushed UK intelligence agencies to investigate the matter, his scientific advisors apparently dismissed it. As a result, Dearlove is accusing leading scientists in the UK and the United States of deliberately suppressing the lab-leak theory to protect their own research interests. He points out that American funding is known to have contributed to the Wuhan laboratory’s so-called ‘gain-of-function’ experiments, which involve making bat viruses more infectious to humans, and suggests that the scientific community, fearing public outrage and the loss of lucrative research grants, colluded with China’s preferred narrative.
Disturbingly, therefore, despite growing evidence from international intelligence agencies – including Germany’s foreign intelligence service, which in 2020 had itself estimated the likelihood of a lab leak at 80-95 percent – the UK’s official inquiry into the pandemic has still not investigated the virus’s origins. Dearlove says that this lack of scrutiny is ‘strange’ given that understanding the true origins of COVID-19 is clearly crucial for preventing future outbreaks.
In a recent opinion piece published in the New York Times, Zeynep Tufekci, a professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University, adds her voice to those who believe that public health officials and the scientific community have knowingly misled the public about the origins of COVID-19. She describes how some previous pandemics, such as the 1977 Russian flu, were also likely caused by lab incidents, yet when similar concerns arose about the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, anyone who questioned the official narrative was essentially ridiculed.
Tufekci summarizes how key scientific publications and institutions have helped shape the misleading bat origin story. A 2020 Nature Medicine paper dismissed the lab-leak theory despite its authors privately admitting it was a likely explanation, for example. Similarly, The Lancet published a letter condemning the idea that the virus was engineered in a laboratory, only for later disclosures to reveal the statement, signed by 27 scientists, had been secretly organized by Peter Daszak, the then-president of the EcoHealth Alliance organization. Daszak had previously directed funding from U.S. taxpayers to the Wuhan facility.
If the British government and others knew the truth in March 2020, then every lie told afterward wasn’t just a mistake – it was a calculated betrayal of democracy. Millions suffered, economies crumbled, and basic freedoms were stripped away, all while those in power suppressed critical evidence. This wasn’t just about avoiding panic; it was about control, corruption, and a cover-up of global proportions.
The question now isn’t just who knew what, but who will be held accountable. If we, the people of the world, let this deception go unpunished, we are inviting an even greater disaster in future – one where secrecy and silence can pave the way for unimaginable suffering. This must not be allowed to happen.
