While sunlight has long been recognized as a key source of vitamin D, emerging research suggests that moderate sun exposure may offer additional health benefits. Despite frequent warnings from doctors about the risks of UV rays – such as skin cancer and premature aging – some researchers argue that mindful sun exposure can improve cardiovascular health. Studies have shown that time in the sun may lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart failure, possibly helping explain why heart problems are more common in winter.

Beyond cardiovascular effects, sunlight may also positively impact the immune system, multiple sclerosis and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. UV light exposure also appears to elevate serotonin levels, which can enhance mood.
