Kennedy’s decision affects contracts and proposals involving Emory University, Pfizer, Sanofi, Moderna, and others, and redirects funds toward vaccine platforms with longer safety records and broader protection, such as whole-virus vaccines. He stresses that the move is based on scientific evidence and that safer, more transparent vaccine platforms will now be prioritized.

The announcement came following Kennedy’s appointing of eight new people to the committee that issues official government recommendations on immunizations, and his removal of all its previous members. He has also recently stated that the mercury-based preservative thimerosal will no longer be used in influenza vaccines distributed in the United States.
