The claimants in this case allege that Johnson & Johnson knowingly sold baby powder contaminated with asbestos and that exposure to the chemical contributed to cancers including ovarian cancer and mesothelioma. If it proceeds on its current scale, the case is expected to become the largest product liability lawsuit in UK legal history.

The claimants say that Johnson & Johnson was aware as early as the 1960s that its talcum powder contained contaminants linked to cancer, but had continued to market it as safe and without warnings. Experts say the case is likely to take years to conclude.
