Pharma Company Used Rap Video To Push For Higher Doses & Sales Of Highly Addictive Opioid Drug

NEWS

Employees at a drug company accused of bribing doctors rapped and danced around a person dressed as a bottle of fentanyl spray, a highly addictive opioid drug, in a video meant to motivate sales reps into getting patients on higher doses.

COMMENT

As this story reminds us, the pharmaceutical ‘business with disease’ is one of the most unscrupulous industries on the planet. Far from putting the health interests of patients first, drug companies will stop at nothing in their pursuit of ever higher profits.

In recent years, getting patients hooked on highly addictive opioid painkillers has become a highly lucrative source of pharma revenue. Estimated to be worth $34 billion in 2015, the global opioids market is expected to be valued at more than $42 billion by 2021.

With over 2 million people in the United States now believed to be suffering from substance use disorders related to prescription opioid painkillers, it is estimated this could result in the loss of up to 1 million American lives by 2020.

Clearly, it is long since time that this mass carnage should have been brought to an end. To understand why we say it is time to treat the Pharma Cartel like the Tobacco Cartel, read this article on our website.
