The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) subsequently described how the New York City Fire Department was ‘falling apart behind the scenes’. Thousands of the city’s police officers have also reportedly refused to be vaccinated.
In a further controversial move, de Blasio is widening the age range for which vaccination is required in order to enter the city’s restaurants, gyms, theaters, and other entertainment venues. This will now include children as young as 5. Significantly, however, less than 20 percent of eligible children in the United States have thus far received even a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and uptake has slowed in recent weeks.
