A Third Of Patients With Severe Asthma Are Taking Harmful Doses Of Oral Steroids

NEWS

A third of patients with severe asthma are taking harmful doses of oral steroids, according to a study of several thousand people in The Netherlands, presented at the European Respiratory Society International Congress.

COMMENT

Fortunately, there are alternatives to taking harmful doses of oral steroids for asthma. Scientific research clearly now shows that safe micronutrient-based approaches are helpful in the prevention and control of the condition.

Research published in 2017 found that patients taking vitamin D supplements could halve their risk of suffering severe asthma attacks. Other research suggests children with higher intakes of omega-3 fatty acids experience fewer asthma symptoms triggered by indoor air pollution. Similarly, a scientific trial conducted in Brazil has shown that turmeric may help with asthma control in children.

To read about a clinical asthma trial conducted by researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute, which successfully tested a specially developed synergistic combination of micronutrients in patients aged between 45 and 75 years old, see this article on our website.
