Pfizer/BioNTech To Develop mRNA-based Shingles Vaccine

Despite the highly experimental nature of mRNA vaccine technology and the fact that it has no long-term safety data, plans are already being made for an even more widespread rollout of its use. Moderna recently announced that, in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, it is starting human trials of an mRNA vaccine for HIV. Similarly, BioNTech is developing an mRNA vaccine for malaria, while both Pfizer and Moderna are working on mRNA vaccines for flu. The apparent rush to market these experimental injections clearly continues the pharma industry’s century-long tradition of placing profit over life.
