Daily Folic Acid Supplement May Reduce Risk Of Gestational Diabetes

NEWS

Taking a folic acid supplement daily before pregnancy may reduce the risk of gestational, or pregnancy-related, diabetes, according to a study carried out by researchers at the United States National Institutes of Health and other institutions.

COMMENT

While gestational diabetes generally resolves itself after the baby is born, it should never be ignored. Not only does it increase the risk of health problems for both the mother and her developing child, women who develop it are more likely to get type 2 diabetes later in life.

Conventional medicine is confined to treating the symptoms of type 2 diabetes by lowering elevated blood levels of sugar. However, cardiovascular disease and other diabetic complications occur even in patients whose blood sugar levels are controlled. It can thus be seen that, while essential, lowering blood sugar levels is an incomplete treatment of diabetic disorders.

The primary cause of type 2 diabetes has been shown in Dr. Rath’s Cellular Medicine research to be a long-term deficiency of certain micronutrients in the cells of the pancreas, the blood vessel walls, the liver, and other organs. Significantly, therefore, clinical studies have clearly documented the roles of vitamin C, vitamin E, B vitamins, magnesium and chromium in helping to prevent diabetes and normalize blood sugar levels. In one particularly striking example, a study published as long ago as 1937 showed that diabetic patients taking 300-500 mg of vitamin C a day could significantly improve their glucose balance. The researchers found that blood sugar levels could be lowered by an average of 30 percent, daily insulin requirements by 27 percent, and that sugar excretion in the urine could be almost eliminated.

You can learn more about controlling diabetes naturally in chapter 7 of Dr. Rath’s book, ‘Why Animals Don`t Get Heart Attacks…But People Do!’. Through carefully following the Cellular Medicine recommendations contained in this groundbreaking book, not only is it possible to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes, existing diabetic conditions and their complications can also be successfully controlled.
