Based on the latest news reports, by October 2020 the United States government already knew that the pandemic-causing coronavirus had probably leaked from a laboratory in China. While it shared this information confidentially with its closest allies, publicly it continued to maintain that the virus had likely jumped between animals and humans.

Since then, of course, the lab-leak theory has gone mainstream. The United States Energy Department and the director of the country’s Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have both openly concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic was likely the result of a laboratory leak.

Other prominent figures who similarly now believe the virus was created in a laboratory include Richard Dearlove, a former head of MI6, the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service, and Dr. Robert Redfield, the former director of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

But of all the people to state publicly during the early days of the pandemic that the virus had been created in a laboratory, arguably the most prominent was the late Professor Luc Montagnier, the French scientist who shared the 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the discovery of HIV. According to Montagnier, the virus contains genetic elements of HIV.  To learn more, see this article and video on our website.
