Swiss Government Recommends High Vitamin D Intake For Those Over 65

It isn’t just people over the age of 65 who need more vitamin D, as research shows deficiency is common in people of all ages worldwide.

In the United States and Canada, vitamin D deficiency is well known to be widespread. In Europe blood levels of vitamin D have been shown to be low in 50 to 70 percent of the population, with India also home to a growing epidemic of the problem. Even in Australia, a country where people typically enjoy an outdoor lifestyle with plentiful sunshine, deficiency is said to have reached crisis levels. High rates of deficiency are also widespread in Africa.

Studies show that a lack of vitamin D is linked to an increased risk of diabetes, depression, multiple sclerosis, irregular heartbeat and colorectal cancer, a poor outcome in Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, reduced survival in Multiple Myeloma, and many other health problems.
